Post-frame is what Collin learned before he started NXT Build. 30×40 garages, 40×60 shops, 60×80 ag buildings, 80×160 indoor riding arenas. Pressure-treated columns set into concrete piers, engineered trusses, steel sheathing, and the bracing that holds for decades of Iowa wind.
Post-frame is a structural system, not a shortcut. Done right, it is the most cost-efficient way to enclose a large clear-span volume in the Midwest. Done wrong, it is a wind sail with a roof on top.
The difference is in the columns, the bracing, and the trusses. NXT Build sets every column on a concrete pier deep enough to clear our frost line. We use pressure-treated columns rated for ground contact, not yard-grade lumber. The truss connections are engineered, sized for the span, and fastened with the specified hardware, not the generic. The wind bracing runs floor to roof, not just at the corners.
Eleven years of doing this for another contractor before Collin started NXT Build taught him every variation: what fails in year five, what fails in year fifteen, what holds for forty. The buildings we put up today are designed around the failure modes, not in spite of them.
Post-frame structures we build

- Indoor riding arenas up to 80×160 clear-span.
- Livestock buildings (cattle, horse, hog, sheep, poultry) with appropriate ventilation and stall layouts.
- Cold storage and contractor shops with rolling doors up to 16×16.
- Lean-to additions on existing pole barns or stick-frame structures.

- Steel siding and roofing in standard or custom colors, with eave overhangs and gable trim.
Why post-frame works for eastern Iowa.
Post-frame puts the structural load on widely-spaced pressure-treated columns rather than on a continuous foundation wall. That is faster to put up, cheaper per square foot, and leaves the interior wide open for whatever you need to fit in it. Equipment, livestock, grain, vehicles.
For our service area, the post-frame advantage is especially strong. Iowa’s deep frost line makes continuous-foundation stick-frame expensive on bigger footprints. Open clear-spans matter when you need to back a combine in or run a hay wagon through. And when the building needs to insulate later, the post-frame wall cavity takes spray foam or batt insulation as cleanly as any conventional wall.
