North of Davenport, where town meets acreage

Scott County is the far south end of our map. Davenport is the county seat, but our work here is up on the north side, along the US 61 stretch through Eldridge and Long Grove and over toward McCausland near the Wapsipinicon River, which forms the county’s north line. The mix here is newer neighborhoods on one side of the road and open acreage on the other.

Eldridge is the biggest of the three towns, and a lot of what we talk about there is residential. Families want a custom home on a lot that is already platted, a big attached garage, or an addition on a house they have outgrown. Master suites, second stories, and sunrooms all come up. On an addition, the new rooms should read as part of the original house, from the roof pitch to the siding line.

Long Grove and McCausland lean more rural. That is where the barndominium and pole barn calls come from: a shop for the side business, a building for the camper and the boat, a post-frame home with living space on one end and work space on the other. Post-frame was Collin’s trade for 11 years before he started NXT Build in 2024, so the shell side of a barndominium is the part we know best.

Light commercial work fits out here too. A contractor’s shop or a storage building along a county road goes up well as post-frame, with a clear span inside and room to finish an office at one end.

Building closer to town brings more paperwork. Inside city limits the town sets the rules, and rural parcels answer to the county. Some newer subdivisions also carry covenants that set rules on siding, roof pitch, or the size of an outbuilding. Send us your lot information and any covenants early. We check them before we draw anything, so the plan you settle on is one you can actually build.

The land itself is gentler than our Driftless jobs up north, but it has its own problems. Flat ground does not drain on its own, so we grade the pad to move water away from the foundation. Lots closer to the Wapsipinicon deserve a look at the flood maps before anything is staked. Wind still crosses the open fields, and snow still loads the roof, so trusses and fasteners get sized for it the same way they would anywhere else on our list.

Distance does not change who answers the phone. Scott County customers get Collin on the first call and at the final walk-through, same as a neighbor back in Zwingle.

Before you build north of the Quad Cities

Do you really work as far south as Eldridge?

Yes. Scott County is the southern edge of our 80-mile radius from Zwingle, and Eldridge, Long Grove, and McCausland are all on our list. Collin comes down to see the lot before we plan anything.

Can you build in a subdivision with covenants?

Yes. Send the covenants along with your lot information, and we design the home, garage, or outbuilding to fit them. Catching a siding or roof pitch rule early saves a redraw later.

Do you build additions on existing homes around Eldridge?

Yes. We build master suites, second-story additions, and sunrooms, and we tie the framing and roofline into the house you already have. The goal is an addition nobody can pick out from the street.

Can I put a post-frame building on my lot in Long Grove or McCausland?

On many rural parcels, yes, but it depends on city or county rules for your property and what the building will be used for. We check that before we give you a number, so you know where you stand.

Do you replace roofs in Scott County?

Yes. We do full tear-offs, architectural shingles, standing seam metal, and storm-damage repairs on homes and outbuildings. Call 563-581-3819 to set up a look.

Why hire a builder based in Zwingle?

You deal with the owner from start to finish. Collin returns every call within 24 hours, shows up when he says he will, and if something on your job is not right, he makes sure it gets resolved.

Ready to talk about your build?

“You will talk to the person building your project from the first call on. That is me, and I return every call within 24 hours.”
